Presentation Summary:
The use of allocation wells in Texas has become an increasingly important topic to oil and gas land professionals and attorneys based in the Rocky Mountain west, particularly with the recent rush to acquire assets in the Permian Basin. Operators familiar with the systems of spacing and pooling used throughout in the west are finding themselves in unfamiliar territory in Texas, where spacing as we traditionally think of it does not exist, pooling must be done on a voluntary basis, and savvy landowners bargain for restrictive pooling provisions in their oil and gas leases. This presentation will cover the purpose and basic mechanics of allocation wells and briefly discuss their legal status.
